Dopey Training week 11, an Injury, and a DNS

This post has been days in the making, but I have just dreaded it!
After the awesome Brielle 10K last week, and missing Color Me Rad, I also noticed a pain in my knee and calf. On Tuesday and Thursday, I tried running anyway, and it was a mangled, short mess. I have walked, half ran 2 miles and limped home. I did not run again. I may not run tomorrow!
Over the weekend, I was supposed to participate in Pretty Muddy, in Ohio. When I first signed up for this race, it was being held in Columbus, an 8 hour drive. I was so excited to be invited as an Ambassador, that I didn't care. I just wanted to participate! Later, the race was moved. Another 2 hours away. With no local hotels, save one, and it did not look promising. The hubs kept protesting, I kept getting mad. Then the injury happened and it was a no brainer. I moped around all weekend, for the most part.
The hubs did take me on a mercy lunch date to Asbury Park, but it didn't help.
I was so upset about this knee injury. I have 5 Halfs coming up, and although I am more than willing to walk every one of them, I am also worried about Dopey! UGH!
Luckily, The pain has started to subside! Hooray! I don't start getting achey until night time,  and it doesn't hurt to walk anymore. Woohoo! I bought myself some happy lime green KT tape for this weekend's races, and I will hopefully get through them both!
I will keep you posted on my races this weekend, and the awesomely unique medals I will getting at both of them! I love getting medals at a 5K, and Sunday's Half is a Trail Race with beer and hot pretzels. One the course. Seriously. I am not a beer drinker, but hot pretzels? Bring em on!
I will also be taking part in a fun new program, Fitness Pen Pals. Actual mail, people! I love actual mail! I will keep you updated on that as well!

Did you ever just shrivel up and die from being coach-bound after an injury? Did you watch 2 seasons of Walking Dead one.after.the.other. like I did?

Not Quite Wordless Wednesday, 9-11 Edition

"Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)" Alan Jackson
Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?
Were you in the yard with your wife and children
Or working on some stage in L.A.?
Did you stand there in shock at the sight of that black smoke
Risin' against that blue sky?
Did you shout out in anger, in fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry?

Did you weep for the children who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know?
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below?
Did you burst out with pride for the red, white and blue
And the heroes who died just doin' what they do?
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself and what really matters?

[Chorus:]
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell
You the difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, hope and love are some good things He gave us
And the greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?
Were you teaching a class full of innocent children
Or driving down some cold interstate?
Did you feel guilty 'cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone?
Did you call up your mother and tell her you loved her?
Did you dust off that Bible at home?

Did you open your eyes, hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep?
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Or speak to some stranger on the street?
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Or go out and buy you a gun?
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watchin'
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns?

Did you go to a church and hold hands with some strangers
Did you stand in line and give your own blood?
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love?

[Chorus x2]

And the greatest is love.
And the greatest is love.

Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?

Dopey Training Week 10 and a DNS

I cannot believe it is week 11 already! Last week, I finished off week 10 of training for the Dopey Challenge. It still doesn't seem real to me, which is probably a good thing!
Monday: one mile dog walk, arm challenge, abs challenge, 3 mile bike ride, wall sits, and plank. Whew! Sounds like a lot, but it wasn't really.
Tuesday: humid, messy, overcast 10 mile run for 5 by the 5th! I also managed my very first pull up, and did all of my challenge exercises! I also gimped over to the USPS to mail the medals for my Virtual Race.

Wednesday: errands on my bike added up to 5 miles! I also did my challenge exercises.
Thursday: Boardwalk run, dog walk, and challenge exercises, and attended training to be a coach for Girls on the Run!

Friday: olympic grocery shopping, Weight Watchers meeting, dog walk, and challenge exercises:

Saturday: Brielle day 10K and challenge exercises:

Sunday: the DNS. I am devastated about this DNS. I was supposed to run Color Me Rad in Baltimore.  I woke up at 4:30 that morning, and my knee HURT. I also had some tummy issues, probably from some greasy food I ate the night before. I don't eat it often anymore, and I think it threw me for a loop. I was determined to go, even if I walked, and I headed out. By the time I hit Delaware I had stopped for 2 long bathroom breaks, and had no chance of making it on time. 4 hours of driving later, I was back home. It was a good thing, too, because the knee? Still sore. No permanent damage, I can feel the improvement already, just too many hills on Saturday. I spent most of the day on the couch and just did my challenge exercises. I was exhausted, though, so no pics. We also took the dogs for a quick walk.

This weekend, I have no races, although there is one that my friends are doing. If the knee feels good after tomorrow's run, I will sign up. It is a nice, flat, easy 5K in a very scenic beach town, and I am hoping to be able to do it!

Have you ever had a DNS?
